How to configure Hugin in Windows Environment

Hugin is almost the best open source photo stitching software. However, the most important component “Control Points Detectors" are missed in the Windows package due to licence issue. “Autopano-SIFT-C" and “Panomatic" are two most functional Control Points Detectors. According to this web site:, “panomatic" seems to be a better choice.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to configure Hugin in Windows Environment:
1. Download Hugin from Hugin’s official site:

2. Download “panomatic" here:

(Please make sure you download the win32 package)

3. Once “" is downloaded, extract the “Panomatic.exe" into Hugin’s “bin" folder: (e.g. C:\Program Files\Hugin\bin)

4. Configure Hugin to locate the “Panomatic.exe"
i. Execute Hugin
ii. Click “File" -> “Preference". A window pop up.
iii. Choose the “Control Points Detectors" tab and select “Panomatic"
iv. Click “Edit" button. Another new window pop up.
v. Locate the “Panomatic.exe" by choosing Hugin’s “bin" folder. (e.g.  C:\Program Files\Hugin\bin) and click OK.
vi. Make it the default “Control Points Detectors" by clicking the “Set Default" button.
vii. Click “OK".

That’s it. Hugin will use “Panomatic" and function properly.
Optional: Use GPU to speed up stitching
If you got any unexpected error, please undo this part.
i. Click “File" -> “Preference". A window pop up.
ii. Choose the “Stitching" tab
iii. Check “Use GPU for remapping (EXPERIMENTAL)", which is at the upper part of the windows.

Optional: Image Cache Memory
Besides, you may increase the “Image Cache Memory" in “File" -> “Preference" -> “General" tab. Something between 50%-80% of the physical memory should be alright. (e.g. If your computer has 1GB RAM, you can use up to 512MB to 820MB for this setting.
